Some Council fees and charges are rising from today
While nobody likes paying fees, it’s also fair that the people who use council services and benefit from them should pay their fair share. That's instead of it being funded by rates from others who may not use that service at all.
Last year we overhauled many of our fees and charges after community feedback told us they should shift slightly away from rates and more towards user-pays. Fees also hadn’t kept pace with the costs of providing services.
This year’s changes are small tweaks to keep up with inflation.
Here’s some of the key changes:
- Orange rubbish bag stickers: up from $2.50 to $3.00
- Landfill fees (general waste) increase by $15/tonne
- Small carload (<100kg): $2 increase to $28
- Medium car/trailer load (<250kg): $4 increase to $70
Context: increases in waste fees are mostly driven by Government changes to the waste disposal levy and the cost of carbon credits – this one’s outside Council control.
- AC Baths entry fees
- Adult: 50c increase to $12.50
- Child: 30c increase to $6.30 (Local kids under 5 remain free)
- Tūrangi Turtle Pools
- Adult: 20c increase to $6.70
- Child: 20c increase to $4.70 (Local kids under 5 remain free)
- Swim school: 50c increase to $15.50 per child’s lesson
- Council venue, sports field and hall hire: 4% increase
- Some licensing and registration fees are also changing
