A huge welcome to everybody coming to the district for the 2025 Taupō Marathon. The views from the Taupō lakefront simply can’t be beat, and this weekend’s course will showcase them at their best!
Starting on Tongariro Street the marathon course heads down Tongariro Street into Roberts Street before starting the first of two laps of the half marathon course.
The course follows the majority of the stunning half marathon course, with the addition of a loop in the new Ngāroto Estate subdivision. Runners head all the way out to the airport roundabout, turning right onto SH1 and continuing out to 5 Mile Bay.
From there it’s a scenic run back along the Great Lake Pathway. At Te Ātea - Tapuaeharuru there will be a turn around to complete the second lap of the course, with the finish line on Tongariro Domain.
To help keep everybody safe during the event there will temporary traffic control measures and speed restrictions in place between 6.30am to 2pm on Saturday 2 August, while the bus stop on Tongariro Street will be temporarily relocated to Pāora Hapi Street (see details and map below).
If you are out and about, you may experience some delays as thousands of competitors and spectators will be in and around Taupō.
The Great Lake Pathway will be used for the runners between Tongariro Domain and Mahuta Road, so take care or enjoy a stroll in one of our many beautiful parks and reserves.
Make sure you head down and cheer on friends and whānau, and everyone else out there giving it a go.
