Take part in the Civil Defence drill

ShakeOut 2025 is New Zealand’s national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi, happening later this week, on Thursday 16 October at 9.30am.

It’s a chance for schools, workplaces, and households to practise Drop, Cover and Hold, and walk their tsunami evacuation route if needed.

The Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Strategic Group Plan 2025–2030 is now live!

With a vision of creating a disaster-resilient Waikato, the plan puts people first — from marae, hapū, and iwi to councils and communities. It responds to recent events such as Covid-19 and the 2023 severe weather events, and outlines the actions we’ll take together to prepare, respond, and recover. Grounded in community values and built on collaboration, the plan reflects Waikato’s collective response to uncertainty and disruption.
