Guild members like Chris Baddeley appreciate the cleaner air while they work.
“The unit we’ve got, that is beautiful. Before you’d walk in and could feel the dust in the air. Now, it’s like the fresh air outside. We’re very grateful.”
Woodturning can be an artistic expression, or it can be a way to create practical items as gifts or donations to the community. Guild member Noel Frecklington often donates his creations.
“Since retiring from building, I’ve been part of the club. Woodworking has always been my hobby. I’ll make shoe horns, foot massagers, shoulder massagers, solitaire boards, bowls. I take them to the red cross shop.”
The guild also accept donations of untreated native wood and old fence batons or strainers.
If you’re interested in learning woodturning, Ray and the rest of the guild would love to introduce new members to the art. The guild meets from 9am to 12noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and evenings from 6.30pm to 9pm on the first and third Thursday of the month at the green woolshed on Hindmarsh road, Rangatira Park.
