New Kinloch water treatment plant is open

Kinloch’s new water treatment plant is officially open and operating.

The plant has been built on a firm footing to withstand any seismic activity, with 21m-long steel piles topped with a 600mm reinforced concrete pad. This makes the plant one of the most solidly engineered in the country. It is capable of producing 5000 cubic metres of drinking water per day.

Project manager Elijah May says the new plant is all about ensuring the growing Kinloch community has a safe and resilient water supply.

“We have also upgraded the pipe network in Kinloch and the new plant has membrane filters which provide a barrier against protozoa and a treatment step to deal with algae blooms should they occur in the lake,” Elijah says.
