Opening hours and services summary

Here’s a few quick reminders about our opening hours and services on Waitangi Day, Friday 6 February 2026.

Kerbside rubbish and recycling collections will be running as normal. If Friday is your normal pickup day please make sure everything is kerbside by 7.30am on Waitangi Day, as usual.
Customer and Visitor Information Centres in Taupō and Turangi will be open 10am to 1pm on Waitangi Day. The Mangakino Service Centre is closed for the day.
Landfill and transfer stations will be open and you can find our opening hours at www.taupodc.govt.nz/rubbish
AC Baths open from 7am to 7pm.
Turtle Pools open 10am to 6pm.
Taupō Museum open from 10am to 4.30pm.
All Taupō District Libraries are closed on Waitangi Day. Taupō and Tūrangi libraries will be open on Saturday as usual.

Bring your whānau and friends for a day of remembrance, celebration and community as we come together to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Enjoy live music, kapa haka, local performers, whānau-friendly activities, kai stalls, and opportunities to learn and reflect on our shared history.

Everyone is welcome – come along with your whānau, friends and picnic blankets for a meaningful day by the river.

Event parking

Tongariro North Domain will be open for parking.
Northbound traffic should use this carpark with entry and exit via the northbound lane of Tongariro St.

Redoubt Street road closure

Redoubt St from Tongariro St to Story Place is closed:

Changes to marina and dump station access

Taupō Marina and Story Place can be accessed via Tongariro St while Redoubt St is closed
Riverside Park dump station will be closed Friday 6 February from 7.30am to 5pm and on Saturday 7 February from 6.30am to 6.30pm.
Please use the closest alternative dump station sites located at Stag Park, Napier Rd or Two Mile Bay Boat Ramp.
