A new chapter for the Superloo
For many in Taupō, the Superloo is a familiar landmark. From Good Friday, 3 April, this well‑known facility will be moving into a new phase, with changes designed to better meet day‑to‑day demand from both locals and visitors.
The biggest change is longer opening hours.
- From 3 April, the toilets will be open from 7am to 8pm during summer, and from 7am to 5pm in winter.
- Baby-changing facilities will remain available.
To enable these extended hours, the Superloo will transition to operating as a toilets-only facility. Showers and lockers will be removed, and the site will become an unmanned public toilet. Operating in this way allows the facility to stay open longer and focus on its most-used service. For those looking for shower facilities, these are available at AC Baths.
During the changeover period, there may be times when the Superloo is temporarily closed. If this happens, public toilets are available approximately 800 metres away at Tongariro North Domain, with clear signage in place to help people find their way.
While the Superloo may be entering a new chapter, it will continue to play an important role in providing accessible public toilets in the heart of Taupō.
