Have your say on proposed changes to Development Contributions Policy
Taupō District Council is asking the community to have its say on three amendments to its Development Contributions Policy.
Development contributions are charges that help Taupō District Council to pay for new or upgraded infrastructure – for water, wastewater, transport, community facilities and reserves – to support growth in the Taupō District. The policy sets out how the cost of growth-related infrastructure is shared and aims to ensure charges are fair and reasonable.
Council is proposing three amendments to ensure the policy continues to be fit for purpose, and the cost of growth is appropriately allocated to the developments that create the need for additional infrastructure.
The three proposed amendments are:
- Increasing the size limit for minor residential units to 70m2 to align with the Government’s new ‘granny flats’ legislation
- Applying a maximum size limit of 70m2 to new commercial accommodation units to help ensure development contributions are applied fairly
- Clarifying the definition of a residential unit to make it clearer for homeowners to understand when development contributions apply.
