2026 ITM Taupō Supercars brings multi-million dollar boost to district

This year's Supercars event weekend from 10 to 12 April was the third time Taupō hosted Supercars and economic analysis shows visitors spent about $7.9 million in Taupō.

Taupō District Mayor John Funnell says the event once again demonstrates the value of major events to the region.

"These results show why Supercars is such an important event for the Taupō District, delivering real benefits for local businesses and helping showcase our district to New Zealand and the world,” says Mr Funnell.

Local and international visitors spent time exploring the district and the weekend provided a boost to the region for the third-year running.

Taupō District Council events and venues manager Steve Giles echoed the mayor’s sentiment.

“With nearly $8 million spent in Taupō and thousands of visitor nights generated, the economic impact of Supercars speaks for itself.

“It's a strong return for our community and reinforces Taupō District's reputation as a premier events destination," Mr Giles says.

The 2027 Repco Supercars Championship will return to Taupō International Motorsport Park in 2027.

Mr Funnell is looking forward to the dates being confirmed in the coming months.

“Taupō District is well known for hosting world-class events and it’s great to welcome Supercars back next year. The positive impact is felt around the whole district, and I can’t wait to see it buzzing with activity once again in 2027."
