World Water Week at Taupō District Council
News
This week is World Water Week, a chance for us to celebrate the people, the places and the work that helps keep our water flowing.
Water is at the heart of Taupō District, and we all have a role to play in protecting our water now, and into the future.
A few small actions can make a big difference in keeping our waterways healthy. You can help by:
- only flushing the three Ps - pee, poo and (toilet) paper.
- not flushing wet wipes, nappies, rags, pads and tampons, or other items that can block wastewater systems.
- keeping rubbish out of stormwater drains and ensuring you clear leaves regularly to prevent blockages.
- disposing of fats, oils, chemicals, and cleaning products safely.
- washing your car on the lawn so detergent and grime can safely soak into the ground.
- keeping stormwater out of our wastewater system by checking your gully trap – make sure this isn’t connected to your roof downpipe or allowing surface rainwater to enter.
Let’s all play our part to protect our wai.
