Applications open for Summer Student Programme

Students looking to gain valuable workplace experience over the summer break should apply for the Taupō District Council Summer Student Programme, with recruitment now underway for the 2026/2027 season.

The programme offers high school and university students from across the district the opportunity to work with the council during the busy summer holiday period, gaining practical skills while contributing to the local community.

Successful applicants will have the chance to build workplace experience, develop professional skills, assist with special projects and gain insight into how local government works. The programme also provides additional support for council teams during one of the district’s busiest times of the year.

A range of roles are available across council services, including recreation facilities and sports grounds, customer experience, parks and reserves, communications, libraries and the museum.

The programme can serve as a pathway to future employment, with several former summer students going on to establish careers within the organisation. Past participants now work in Health and Safety and Business Support.

Applicants can apply for multiple positions but must submit a separate application for each role they wish to be considered for.

Students should be aware that some positions may require weekend and public holiday work. Applicants must also be available to work from late November or December through to late January or February.

Applications close on Thursday, 8 October.
