Rangatahi (youth) from across the district stepped into the Council Chambers earlier this month, joining councillors and the mayor for a lively discussion on the issues that matter most to young people.
Kai and Kōrero provided an opportunity for youth to share their perspectives, challenge ideas, and speak directly with elected members.
The young people spoke confidently on a range of topics, demonstrating thoughtful leadership and a strong interest in the future of their district. The debate encouraged open conversation, respectful discussion, and the exchange of different perspectives.
The future is in good hands when we have rangatahi who are engaged, informed, and ready to contribute to the conversations that affect them and their communities.
The debate formed part of the council’s ongoing commitment to encourage youth participation and strengthen connections between local government and young people.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and hearing more from the next generation of leaders.
