Water mains renewals for Rainbow Point
If you've been at Aubrey Crescent Reserve recently you will have noticed a big blue addition to the grass - don't worry, it's not permanent.
Work gets underway on Monday 2 November on a project to renew water mains in Rainbow Point. The mains in the area were originally installed in the early 1970s and are reaching the end of their service life, so must be replaced to avoid leaks and possible mains breaks.
Councillor Rachel Cameron says the project will be carried out in stages on Mapou Rd, Oregon Drive and Haines Grove, Kathleen Place, Charles Crescent, Rainbow Drive, Kowhai Rd, Aubrey Crescent and Chad St with the most high-profile stage kicking off the project on Lake Terrace between Mapou Road and the southern entrance to Rainbow Drive.
The Lake Terrace section of work will involve a shoulder closure from Monday 2 November to Tuesday 10 December.
Cr Cameron says while the project will cause some disruption, it is also essential work.
"Pipes underground are not particularly exciting, but as we have seen elsewhere in the country, if you neglect this work it can have very serious consequences down the track."
