Experienced local tourism operator joins DGLT Board
Local Taupo man Torben Landl has recently been appointed to the board of Destination Great Lake Taupo (DGLT).
Torben brings a wealth of experience to the Board from his time as a tourism operator and entrepreneur. He is the founder of a number of start-up companies including Parkbubble, LT Concepts Ltd and Laundromap.
Torben has recently returned to Taupo with his fianc Rochelle as owner of Taupo's 2Mile Bay watersports centre. He is particularly interested in working with local iwi on future tourism ventures, improving shoulder season visitor numbers, and reducing the impact of economic growth on Taupo's beautiful natural environment.
"I'm really enjoying building up the 2Mile Bay business after purchasing it from my father. The centre has been in our family for 28 years and it's great to be back in Taupo and part of the business community. It's such a special place to live and I'm looking forward to being part of the DGLT Board. In the past I've built companies and raised capital in a range of industries including construction, hospitality, entertainment, financial services and tourism. I hope that this range of skills will add another dimension to the work of the Board."
The appointment was made by the Mayor and councillors following an extensive recruitment process. Criteria included business and tourism industry experience, marketing expertise, and an understanding of governance.
Chair of the DGLT Board Ray Salter said Torben will be a great asset to the team. "He brings international and start-up experience to the table at a time where these skills are in high demand" he said.
