4 October 2017
In the last week of July we put out a call for a superhero to help us design an A4 poster with an 'It's not ok to litter message' to help us clean up our district.
We had an overwhelming response with more than 200 entries and the quality was so outstanding it took us a little longer to judge than first thought.
It was not an easy task for our judging panel of Mayor David Trewavas, anti-litter campaigner Carol Lamb, and main sponsor Mark Gibson of Top Gear Cycles, to choose a winner but in the end there was one entry that stood out from the rest.
Taupo Intermediate student Bavneet Kaur, pictured with her entry, is the proud winner of a $400 voucher toward a new bike. Bavneet's entry was seen by the judges to capture all the elements of the anti-litter message including doing the right thing by putting rubbish in the bin and recycling where possible. The design will now be used to promote the anti-litter message across the district.
Other finalists were Harper Walshe, Lucas Waitere-Nadayave, Emma Hampson-Tindale and Jimmy Vennell.
Spot prizes of The Edge Indoor Rockwall passes for highly commended entries went to Henry Dawson, Summer Goddard, Katherine Davy, Callum Pettman and Alyssa Hurley.
A big thank you to our sponsors Top Gear Cycles, Taupo Hobbies, Tech Central, Starlight Cinema Centre and Glynn and Mary Pointon. Special acknowledgement also to the students from Taupo Intermediate, St Patrick's Catholic and Taupo Primary schools who produced several outstanding entries.
