Random order for local body election candidates
1 April 2016
Things are going to be a bit random for this year's local body elections!
Taupo District Council on Tuesday resolved to use the random method of displaying candidates' names on voting papers. This is the same system used at the last elections. The order will be different on each individual voting paper.
The election will be held on Saturday, October 8 by postal ballot. Nominations for candidates open on 15 July and voting papers will be sent out to all enrolled voters from Friday, September 16.
Taupo District residents enrolled on the parliamentary roll are automatically enrolled to vote in the local government elections as a residential elector. Those who pay rates on a Taupo District property but live elsewhere may be eligible to enrol on the non-resident ratepayer electoral roll, but need to apply for this by August 12. For more information on this visit www.taupo.govt.nz or visit www.elections.org.nz to enrol to vote.
