Road closure for Oxfam Trailwalker
26 March 2015
Redoubt Street will be closed between Tongariro Street and Story Place from 10am on Saturday, March 28 to 6pm on Sunday, March 29.
The road is being closed to accommodate a checkpoint on the Oxfam Trailwalker event which will be set up nearby.
The event will see teams of four walk 100km of some of Taupo's most scenic tracks, paths and walkways together, finishing between 18 and 36 hours later at Tongariro Domain.
The event this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. Since it started in 2006, it has raised over $8 million for Oxfam's work and over 10,000 people have completed the challenge. Over $740,000 has already been raised by teams this year, including a team from local accounting business, Strettons.
Participants and supporters will also have the opportunity to attend a free finish line festival at Tongariro Domain featuring some of New Zealand's best emerging musical talents and other artists.
It starts at 10am next Sunday and will include acts like Cornerstone Roots and Batucada Sound Machine entertaining throughout the day.
