Taupo District community grants scheme revised
Changes to Taupo District Council's community grants scheme will see greater support for organisations and the total amount of funding increased to $600,000.
The council is now offering partnership agreements to groups and organisations who work in Taupō District communities. The previous service level agreements that lasted for just one year have been replaced by new three year partnership agreements.
Head of community, culture and heritage Dylan Tahau said the council valued the role of the community in helping it distribute funding fairly and efficiently. "We will distribute grants in two ways, by three year partnership agreements to provide a greater degree of certainty around funding, and also through independent distributors, which are basically for stand alone, one-off grants," he said.
"We have also added an environmental category to the existing social services, sports and arts, culture and heritage categories. This reflects the growing importance of our community playing a role in protecting our environment. Partnership agreements must be for more than $5000 a year, and may include wages and salaries and running costs."
The changes to the grants scheme were adopted in 2015, but are only now coming in to effect under the new Long-term Plan. For further information and to apply for grants click here.
