Taupo District parking and signage upgrades approved
Turangi and Taupo will see new mobility parks installed to allow easier access to key areas within their CBD areas.
Taupo District Council's Fences, Roading, Reserves and Dogs Committee decided at this week's meeting to add a mobility parking space and mobility ramp in Te Rangitauhanga Road, Turangi at the back of a public toilet block on the town centre carpark side of the road. This will allow for easier access to the toilet entrance. The decision was made following discussions with local business owners.
In addition, one angle parking space will be removed and marked with yellow no parking lines, so mobility users can access the toilet and the carparks.
Head of Operations Kevin Strongman said in Taupo an additional mobility space will be installed on Roberts Street between Ruapehu Street and Lake Terrace.
This will be in addition to an existing mobility park and will accommodate vehicles which have only one side access door. This will improve access regardless of which side of the vehicle the door is on, he said.
A give way sign and road-marking will be also be added at the Victoria Street and Hyde Avenue intersection in Richmond Heights to provide clarity for drivers. This was previously an uncontrolled intersection.
