Waste free workshops to help our community
Want to reduce your ecological footprint and find easy solutions to waste-free parenting? You're in luck!
The nationally renowned 'Nappy Lady', Kate Meads, is coming to Taupo next month to run two workshops: one on waste-free parenting and one on food waste reduction.
Ms Meads teaches communities that want to make responsible choices to reduce their waste output.
We are supporting the workshops because we are enthusiastic about waste minimisation in the district, and think this is a great way to find out how to help.
Stormwater and solid waste asset manager Brent Aitken said the council was constantly striving to facilitate less waste going into landfills.
"These days we recycle all sorts of things - from milk bottles to pizza boxes," he said. "It's logical we would encourage recycling food and family waste, and Kate teaches the best ways of achieving that."
The food waste reduction workshop, Food Lovers' Masterclass, includes information on meal planning, smart shopping, smart storage, the difference between use-by and best-before, and more.
All those who attend receive a waste-free starter pack worth $100 to take home.
