Wastewater overflow in Turangi
News
A pipe blocked by fat and tree roots has caused a small amount of wastewater to overflow into the stormwater system in Puataata Road in Turangi.
The spill has then discharged into the Wiremu Street gully, which in turn flows into a land drain that runs for 2.5kms beside State Highway 41 before entering the Hangarito Stream. Due to the heavy rainfall we are currently experiencing, the spill has been greatly diluted but a clean up is underway and precautionary samples are being taken.
Signs are being put in place and the community is asked to avoid contact with stormwater in the area around State Highway 41 just outside of Turangi and to not take any water cress from the area.
