Turangi and Tokaanu residents urged to minimise water use
Turangi and Tokaanu residents are being urged to minimise their water use from Monday 22 July to Friday 26 July while filter membranes at the Turangi wastewater treatment plant are renewed.
Operations Manager Three Waters Kevin Sears said recent heavy rainfall meant the plant’s ponds were above normal levels and therefore residents were being asked to reduce the amount of water entering the system while the work was underway. The work would have no effect on drinking water quality and Mr Sears said the call to minimise water use was to reduce the amount of wastewater.
“We’ll be shutting down half the plant from Monday and to take the pressure off the system we’re asking people to take shorter showers instead of baths, to use washing machines and dish washers sparingly, and to try and flush their toilets as little as possible from Monday 22 July to Friday 26 July. Just like in Taupo our message is if it’s yellow, let it mellow,” he said.
