Building Communities for the Future - Te Pā Harakeke​

About Te Pā Harakeke

Te Pā Harakeke is Taupō District Council’s capacity and capability building programme, developed to support community not-for-profit groups and not-for-profit organisations to strengthen their skills, knowledge and confidence.

Inspired by the symbolism of the harakeke plant and the importance of connection, nurturing and collective strength, the initiative takes a people-first approach to helping communities become stronger, more resilient and better equipped for the future.

Past workshops and webinars

The programme began by asking local organisations what support and training they needed most. Feedback from the community helped shape a series of free workshops which we planned and delivered with our expert partners, covering areas such as:

  • Governance
  • Trustee development
  • Strategic planning
  • Marketing and communications
  • Sustainable funding
  • AI for beginners

In its first phase, Te Pā Harakeke delivered four in-person workshops and five online webinars, with 227 participants. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees valuing the practical learning, resources, networking opportunities and connection with other organisations.

The success of the programme also highlighted a strong desire for further training and ongoing support, helping to shape the next stage of capacity and capability building across the Taupō District.
