Thinking of standing for local government this year?
Wondering if it’s for you? Come along to a free evening with Council’s Electoral Officer, Warwick Lampp, to find out more about what it means to be an elected member and how to get your nomination in.
Becoming a councillor is a great opportunity to help the community. Taupō District needs leaders from a range of backgrounds and experiences. All ages, stages, cultures, abilities, and ambitions. It’s a hard and rewarding role. You’ll be making a positive difference for people and communities for today and into the future.
What the briefing session will cover
During our candidate briefing session you will find out more about:
- What local government is all about, including the role of elected members
- Election details, including key dates
- The Māori Ward poll
- The nomination process, including the positions available and what candidates need to do to ensure their nomination meets all requirements
- Information about campaigning
- The election process, announcement of results and coming into office
Candidate nominations are open from 4 July until 1 August at 12 noon, 2025.
Briefing date and location
- When: 6pm - 7pm, Tuesday 1 July 2025
- Where: Waiora House, 100 Kaimanawa Street, Taupō
Everyone is welcome - no registration required.
Join the livestream, ask questions in advance
The session will also be livestreamed (and available to watch after the event) on our Taupō District Council YouTube channel.
So if you cannot make it along to the Candidate briefing session on the night, you are welcome to join the livestream and we'll endeavour to answer any questions sent to us prior to the session via an email to sjames@taupo.govt.nz.
