Summary of opening hours over the festive season

• All customer service centres are closed on Christmas Day.
• On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve all customer service centres close at the earlier time of 12noon.
• Customer service centres in Taupō and Turangi will be open for reduced hours on other public holidays.
• Mangakino customer service centre will be closed on all public holidays.

Changes to kerbside rubbish and recycling collections

If your normal kerbside collection day falls on Christmas Day or New Year's Day, your rubbish and recycling will be collected one day later than usual.

Remember it’s a super busy time for our contractors over the holiday period with larger volumes of rubbish and recycling than usual to pick up, especially cardboard! Extra trucks and staff will be working - you may see two trucks picking up your recycling during the busiest times.

Landfill and Transfer Stations

Landfill, resource recovery centres and transfer stations will have normal operating hours except for Christmas Day when all facilities will be closed.

• Normal opening hours of 10am to 4.30pm apply on all other days.

AC Baths

• The AC Baths is open every day over the holiday period, except Christmas Day.
• On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve the pools close at the earlier time of 12noon.
• Opening hours are reduced slightly on other public holidays.

Tūrangi Turtle Pools

• The Turtle Pools are open every day over the holiday period, except Christmas Day.
• On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve the pools close at the earlier time of 12noon.
• Opening hours are reduced slightly on other public holidays.

Mangakino Community Pool

• The Mangakino Community Pool is open every day over the holiday period, except Christmas Day.
• The pool will close for the season on Sunday 22 February 2026.
• Opening hours vary across the summer.

• The Fitness Studio is open every day over the holiday period, except Christmas Day.
• On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve the Fitness Studio closes at the earlier time of 12noon.
• Opening hours are reduced slightly on other public holidays.

We want you to have fun this New Year period, but it's important to do it safely and be responsible!

A permanent alcohol ban applies at the following locations:

• Taupō town centre
• Paetiki Shopping Centre in Taupō
• Otumuheke Stream bathing area in Spa Thermal Park.

In addition, over the New Year period from 12 noon December 27 until 7am January 4 there is an alcohol ban which covers:

• Tūrangi town centre
• Lakefront reserves in the Taupō District
• Hipapatua Reserve (Reid's Farm) in Taupō.

An alcohol ban also applies in the Mangakino town centre between 7pm Friday and 7am Sunday, plus all public holidays.

By law, the period from 20 December 2025 to 10 January 2026 is excluded from the 20-working-day processing timeframe for LIMs, building and resource consents, and LGOIMAs. These dates are considered non-working days under legislation.

Any existing applications that are still being processed by Friday 19 December 2025 will be paused until 12 January 2026.

While new applications can still be made online over this 20-day period, anything submitted after Friday 19 December 2025 will not start to be processed until Monday 12 January 2026.
