Te Papamārearea Māori Ward candidates

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order below. For each candidate, you'll find their name and (if supplied) their affiliation, photograph and profile statement. Contact details are included where candidates have chosen to make them public.

In addition, all candidates were offered the opportunity to film a video up to 90 seconds, answering the same three questions. For those who took up the opportunity, you will see a video alongside their candidate details.

Voting is open from Tuesday 9 September to 12 noon Saturday 11 October 2025.

Ngāhuia FOREMAN (NEE ASHER)

My principal place of residence is in the Te Papamārearea Māori Ward area.

I’m standing for Council because I can’t be a bystander anymore. Decisions must reflect the values of our whānau, hapū, and communities across the rohe o Ngāti Tūwharetoa.

I bring lived experience as a public servant who understands how government systems work - and where they must shift to serve our people better. I’m not here to be a kūmara or a peacock - I’m here to do the mahi, ask hard questions, and clear the path for our aspirations.

Our mokopuna deserve bold decisions grounded in tikanga and action. If elected, I’ll bring accountability, strategic experience, and a deep commitment to our whenua, our people, and our future. You’ll still find me in the kitchen at the marae too, because no matter how busy life gets, it’s always nice to be home and serve our whānau.

Danny Aperahama LOUGHLIN

We have come too far not to go further.

Ko Ngāti Ruingarangi, Ngāti Rauhoto me Ngāti Te Maunga ngā hapū — he uri tēnei nō Ngāti Tūwharetoa. Ko David Takataraka Loughlin rāua ko Dawn Loughlin ōku mātua.

Three years ago, I stood to bring a strong Māori voice to Taupō District Council. I’m standing again - because the mahi’s not done.

I bring governance experience as a trustee on the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board, former Lakes DHB member, and current GM of Ngāti Tūwharetoa Fisheries. With a background as a Chartered Accountant and a heart for our people, I work hard to get things done for whānau and hapū.

I live in Taupō, I’m 56, and I believe in straight-up leadership, accountability, and putting people first.

If you want someone who’ll show up, speak up, and follow through - I’m your guy.

Tēnā koutou e te Iwi. I stand as a proud mokopuna, māmā, partner, rangatahi and whānaunga to represent you as a candidate for Te Papamārearea Māori Ward. Raised by my village in Waitahanui, I am grounded in the values of kaitiakitanga, kotahitanga and manaakitanga. I understand the daily realities our whānau face and the collective aspirations we hold across the rohe. I bring experience in community leadership, and I am committed to serving our people with strength, honesty, and a clear, future-focused vision. My dream is for a Hawaiki Hou, a new world where we stand side by side, where our tamariki grow up safe, proud, and connected. I am committed to making change, protecting our taiao, and ensuring every voice is heard. Your vote is a vote for a new future, the revolution that we need for a better world. Toitū te whenua!
