Tūrangi-Tongariro Ward candidates

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order below. For each candidate, you'll find their name and (if supplied) their affiliation, photograph and profile statement. Contact details are included where candidates have chosen to make them public.

In addition, all candidates were offered the opportunity to film a video up to 90 seconds, answering the same three questions. For those who took up the opportunity, you will see a video alongside their candidate details.

Voting is open from Tuesday 9 September to 12 noon Saturday 11 October 2025.

Sandra GREENSLADE

My principal place of residence is in the Tūrangi-Tongariro Ward area.

I am currently Tūrangi’s councillor on Taupō District Council, representing everyone in the Ward.

I’ve rolled up my sleeves for our people, championing local decision-making where it matters most.

I bring proven governance experience, from chairing the Tongariro Representative Group and serving on the Tūrangi Co-Governance Committee, to being a trustee on King Country Trust and Maru Trust.

As Chair of the Southern Lake Taupō Health Trust, I look after the Tūrangi Medical Centre’s assets, safeguarding this vital community facility. I support grassroots leadership, through our resident and ratepayer associations, making sure every voice is heard, from Hatepe to Waihaha.

Tūrangi and our southern settlements deserve strong, experienced leadership; representation that’s local, and accountable. I am elected by the people and I work for the people. I’m focused on better planning, and a fairer share of Council’s resources through building relationships that bring action—not just talk.

David LIVINGSTONE

My principal place of residence is in the Tūrangi-Tongariro Ward area.

Ko Tokaanu tōku kāinga tuturu. My deep roots in this whenua and my commitment to both Māori and the wider community drive me to stand for the Tūrangi–Tongariro Ward.

I bring practical experience as an electrician and project leader, alongside years of advocating for our community on issues that matter – housing, infrastructure, jobs, and the protection of our unique environment. I have worked alongside hapū, whānau, and community groups to ensure local voices are heard and respected.

When elected,my focus will be: Protecting our environment and securing funding for local projects; Creating real opportunities for our rangatahi and whānau; Ensuring council decisions reflect the needs of our ward, not just Taupō; Building unity between cultures for a stronger community.

I will stand for all listen to all, and work for us all.

Alan RAFFERTY (RAFF)

My principal place of residence is in the Tūrangi-Tongariro Ward area.

Proud to be a Turangi man, I’ve called this place home since the early 1970s, when my family moved here from Waiouru. Schooled locally, I’ve worked across the region— from the bush and the power stations, to 30 years running my business, Raff’s Tyre Shop, focused on serving locals and giving back to the community.

With all my children and grandchildren living here, I care deeply about the future of the place we call home — its people, its progress, and ensuring the next generation has more opportunity and support. For over 30 years, I’ve also been, and remain, a dedicated and active member of Turangi Land Search and Rescue.

I’m standing for Council to represent our community with honesty, practical experience, and a passion for the wellbeing and growth of Turangi–Tongariro. I believe local voices should shape local decisions, and I’m here to listen, speak up, and work hard.
