Rubbish and recycling changes in response to COVID-19 Alert Level 4

|Kerbside rubbish collection will continue across the Taupō District, but there will be no kerbside recycling collection and only bagged rubbish will be accepted at the Broadlands Road landfill and district transfer stations, for the next four weeks. |
Green waste, recycling or any other materials will not be accepted at any of our facilities until further notice. All bags will need a council sticker or be in a prepaid yellow bag.

Load composition will be assessed upon arrival at the transfer station.

Taking of shredded green waste is free.
Please be aware hazardous waste that can endanger human health, such as asbestos, medical waste and radioactive substances are not accepted at the Broadlands Road landfill or any of our transfer stations. If you have waste that may be considered dangerous or hazardous or you are not sure about, please contact us prior to visiting one of our sites to see if it will be accepted.
Most recycling is free but a charge may apply to some recyclable materials. The following items are accepted for recycling:
- All the recyclable items you put in your green bin
- Green waste*
- Reusable pre-loved goods
- Second-hand furniture
*To protect contractors equipment and maintain product quality there are restrictions on green waste. Green waste cannot contain any of the following, or the whole load must be charged and dumped as refuse:
Flax, phoenix palm fronds, cabbage trees/leaves, stumps, tree limbs over 150mm, vines, gorse, agapanthus and other noxious plants, netting, string/twine/wire, steel poles/stakes, rubbish, hard fill/concrete/rocks.
