Charges
How much you pay for waste disposal depends on how much waste you have and the type of waste.
- The composition and size of your load will be assessed upon arrival at the transfer station
- Note minimum charges apply for general waste and green waste (see below for charges)
- You can pay by Eftpos or credit card. The transfer station does not accept cash or cheques.
Please be aware hazardous waste that can endanger human health, such as asbestos, medical waste and radioactive substances are not accepted at any of our transfer stations or the Broadlands Road landfill. If you have waste that may be considered dangerous or hazardous or you are not sure about, please contact us prior to visiting one of our sites to see if it will be accepted.
Refuse (general rubbish/waste) charges
| Refuse and vehicle load size | Minimum charge |
|---|---|
| Small load (under 100kg, e.g. car boot) | $29.00 |
| Medium load (under 250kg, e.g. small van, ute, trailer) | $74.00 |
| Large load* (under 400kg, e.g. large van, ute, trailer) | $118.00* |
*Note large commercial loads over 400kg (e.g. large trailers, trucks) are not permitted at this transfer station. Loads of this size should be taken to Broadlands Road Landfill.
About refuse charges
The refuse rates shown above reflect our operating costs and includes two levies set by central government:
- Waste Minimisation Act 2008: for every tonne of waste that goes into landfill, we pay a waste levy to the Ministry for the Environment. This levy is then invested into projects and infrastructure that support waste minimisation activity.
- New Zealand Emissions trading scheme: as a landfill operator we are required to purchase New Zealand Emission Units (ETS). This cost is incorporated into our refuse charges.
We encourage everyone to re-use, recycle and reduce! When visiting our transfer stations, separate out any recycling materials and green waste from general rubbish/waste. Reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill is better for the environment and saves you money!
Rubbish bag charges
Bagged rubbish can be disposed of as general refuse/waste, using pre-paid orange stickers or yellow Enviro NZ prepaid bags, as used for kerbside rubbish collections in the Taupō District:
- Rubbish bags must be no bigger than 60 litres
- A pre-paid orange sticker must be on every rubbish bag, unless it is a yellow Enviro NZ prepaid bag, otherwise a $3 charge per bag will be applied.
| Rubbish bags and pre-paid orange stickers | Charge |
|---|---|
| Rubbish bag - with pre-paid orange sticker already applied | No charge |
| Yellow Enviro NZ prepaid rubbish bag | No charge |
| Rubbish bag - without pre-paid orange sticker | $3.00 per bag |
Green waste charges
The disposal of green waste can include most general garden waste, grass clippings, tree and shrub pruning and branches but some restrictions apply to protect contractors equipment and maintain product quality. See exclusions below.
| Green waste and vehicle load size | Minimum charge |
