Project overview
Work is underway on upgrading shared paths leading down Tongariro Street and up Norman Smith Street.
The upgrade will see the existing footpath removed and a wider, shared pathway installed to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
These pathways will help to link the Acacia Bay pathway to the Taupō town centre and be much safer for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooter users. The upgrade will further increase connectivity to the growing Mapara area.
As always, drivers are asked to please use caution around the work site. The project is expected to be completed in April.
Construction timeframes and closures
- Construction will run from 7am to 7pm with no works on Sundays and Public holidays.
- The route will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists and no road closures are required on Tongariro Street and Norman Smith Street.
- There will be a road closure for several days at the entrance into Redoubt Street.
