Project overview
Works have commenced on the new Motuoapa Water Treatment Plant located on Parekaawa Drive.
This will be a state-of-the-art membrane style plant with an added treatment process to address the natural arsenic levels found in Lake Taupō. The lake intake will stay the same, and works are currently underway to install a dedicated raw water pipe from the intake to the new plant.
This plant will have the capacity to treat over 1200m3 of water at peak production and has a budget of $8.3million, with completion due in late 2026.
The plant will provide Motuoapa residents with a higher degree of protection for their drinking water supply, and it will also help to improve resilience with the supply of drinking water and be able to service planned growth for Motuoapa.
