Whangamata Road widening and safety improvements

Project overview

Work to widen and reseal a 1.4km section of Whangamata Road, near the entrance to Kinloch, is being carried out over spring.

Widening this section of road will help provide a safer and more consistent road width and create additional space for everyone using this busy route, including motorists and cyclists.

The project includes drainage improvements, along with the widening and resealing work. Some trees and vegetation will need to be removed to accommodate the wider road and improve visibility in the area.

We also plan to add signs and road markings to improve safety and make the reduced speed limit more obvious as you get closer to Kinloch, encouraging drivers to slow down as they come into the village.

Traffic management

During the construction there will be temporary traffic management in place along Whangamata Road where the widening work is taking place.

• there will be periods of lane closures with stop/go and minor delays for road users
• no full road closures are anticipated
• expect to see contractors, vehicles and machinery operating in the area while the work is underway.

Please drive with care in the area and allow a little extra time when travelling through this section of the road.
